Academics - 2017/18

Mr. Sheridan Teasel and Ms. Hannah Pearce led the following three teams of students to compete in the North East Asian Mathematics Competition, which took place in Beijing on March 1–3 with 162 students competing. The following are the members of each team:

  • G10: Tohma Sung, Ethan Chan and Jeffrey Yu
  • G9: Coco Yeung, Chloe Cheung and Candace Chung; and
  • G8: Hayden Lam, Miriam Cheng and Crystal Deng;


Despite fierce competition from high achieving schools across Asia and an intense competition schedule, our students performed extremely well in the competition and have won the following awards:

Senior Division

  • Bronze for Challenge: Tohma Sung

Junior Division

  • Gold for Creativity and Silver for Collaboration: Coco Yeung
  • Gold for Strategy and Silver for Creativity: Crystal Deng
  • Gold for Creativity, Silver for Strategy and Challenge, and Bronze for Collaboration: Miriam Cheng
  • Gold for Strategy and Challenge, Silver for Knowledge: Hayden Lam
  • Champions Medals (for the top six students out of the 90 participating students in the Grade 9 and younger division): Hayden Lam (1st), Miriam Cheng (2nd) and Crystal Deng (5th)
  • First place (School Team)—G8 team, earning a Gold medal each for Communication

Furthermore, Coco Yeung, Crystal Deng, Miriam Cheung, and Hayden Lam all won Golden Ticket invitations to the World Mathematics Championships Finals, which will be hosted by the University of Melbourne in late June.

The Academy would like to commend all participating teachers and students for their strenuous efforts and congratulate them for the outstanding achievements!

Congratulations to Sui Ning SIM (G11, Water), who was recently named the first “Decoder in the Spotlight” by News-Decoder, a not-for-profit news service and global forum for millennials. As a Higher-Level History student in Ms. Stitch’s DP1 class, Sui Ning was honored for her active participation in and contribution to the forum’s first webinar of 2017–18, which focused on China and its relations with the West.
