Jin Yun CHOW (Class 2012–13) Named Valedictorian of Princeton University Class 2017

We are proud to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Jin Yun CHOW, who was recently selected as the 2017 Valedictorian at the prestigious Princeton University. Jin will deliver the valedictory address to the graduating class, parents, and guests at the Commencement Ceremony in June.

An ISF Academy alumna and Valedictorian of the Class 2013, Jin Yun showed great interest in languages and literature during her time at The ISF Academy. Jin Yun studied English Literature, Chinese Language and Literature and French as a part of her International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Jin Yun was the first ISF graduate to be admitted to an Ivy League University. At Princeton, Jin Yun continued to follow her academic passions, majoring in comparative literature, studying Latin, German and Old Irish. For her outstanding academic performance, Jin Yun was awarded the Shapiro Prize for Academic Excellence; she was also elected to the academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, Jin Yun plans to pursue a Ph.D. in comparative literature and learn Arabic at Stanford University.

As an IB student at The ISF Academy, Jin Yun learnt about “global citizenship” and “CAS” (Creativity, Activity, Service) and she continues to put these noble ideas into practice. She works as a tour guide with the Princeton University Art Museum and is actively involved with the French Theater troupe L’Avant-Scène. Jin Yun has tutored incarcerated inmates and even launched a prison-teaching initiative called “Princeton Reentry and Employment Preparation” (PREP). While Jin Yun now spends most of her time in the United States, she has not forgotten her roots. In the coming summer, she will return to Hong Kong to teach at a summer camp that aims to help mainland immigrant children adapt to the local school environment.

We join together in congratulating Jin Yun for her outstanding academic achievements at one of the world’s most selective institutions. We also wish her the best in her future endeavors at Stanford. We know from Jin’s amazing track record that she will continue to demonstrate the Academy’s virtues wherever she goes.
