Two groups of our Grade 5 students topped the Primary School Invention category with the \u201cMini Environment Detector\u201d winning the First prize and the \u201cMulti-Purpose Plant Monitor\u201d following closely on the Second. In the Computer and Information Technology section under the Secondary School Research and Invention category, our Grade 10 students won the First prize with their pioneering mobile app \u2013 \u201cQirui Pay.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Paulus Dong from Grade 5, \u201cMini Environment Detector\u201d is small, light and highly integrated to record environment data automatically in search for optimal conditions for plant growth. \u201cMulti-Purpose Plant Monitor\u201d is designed by Kayley Yip, Andrew Wong and Daniel Yip from Grade 5 with various sensors and modules to monitor and water plants by precisely calculating favorable plant growth conditions. \u201cQirui Pay\u201d, designed by Kevin Sun and Harry Wang from Grade 10, ingeniously receives, stores, and transfers digital tokens on both iOS and Android platforms. It has been successfully deployed as a conducive transaction solution in our community events, Jam and Service Market.<\/p>\n<p>Our gratitude goes to Ms. Clary Ho for guiding the two Primary School teams in the competition. Kevin and Harry also conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Sean Moran, Head of Educational Technology and the Secondary Leadership Team, &#8220;Since the conception of our idea to create Qirui Pay, you have all been unwavering, open-minded and supportive. Your encouragement is instrumental in our successful deployment of Qirui Pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school takes pride not only in the students\u2019 recognition among talented young people in STEM, but also their testament to the ISF spirit of innovation and change. We are excited and curious about how they will go on to make our community and society a better place.<\/p>\n<p>Incepted since 1997, the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition is the city\u2019s largest interschool science event attracting over 400 schools and nearly 4,000 contestants each year.
