Science and Discovery

Annually, the Science and Discovery course teaches a science topic that is not covered in the Secondary School science curriculum. The course for the 2016–17 Academic Year is “The History of Science—A Study of Scientific Experiments Throughout the World”.

The ISF Academy works closely with the Needham Research Institute (NRI) in Cambridge, UK and each summer students have the opportunity to work at the NRI on a topic related to science and civilization in China. The goal of this year-long course is to bring the history of science into the laboratory. Students will learn the history of a key scientific finding and then have the opportunity to duplicate the experiments that led to the discovery. There will be a focus on historical scientific discoveries in China based on the research by the Needham Research Institute as well as key findings in the Western world.
