Assistant Director of Finance
Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Finance as a core member of the Finance management team;
- Oversee and review daily finance operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with approved policies and procedures;
- Provide guidance and escalation support for complex, sensitive or cross-entity finance matters;
- Ensure consistent application of finance policies and controls across all entities and teams;
- Provide guidance on procurement matters and review purchase orders submitted for approval;
- Review month-end closing schedules, reconciliations, management reports, budget and forecast reports, and report to Education Bureau to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency;
- Assist in replying to enquiries from Inland Revenue Department and Education Bureau;
- Monitor reporting timelines and standards across entities, ensuring alignment with Education Bureau requirements, institutional and statutory requirements;
- Review, quality-check, and coordinate finance-related papers for Finance Committee , Audit Committee, Development Committee , Financial Aid Committee , and other governance meetings;
- Support decision-making by ensuring finance submissions are clear, accurate, and aligned with governance expectations;
- Coordinate and oversee external audit matters, including audit planning, fieldwork support, and resolution of audit findings;
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, accounting standards, internal control frameworks, Education Bureau requirements and governance policies;
- Lead enhancements to finance workflows, system processes (e.g. SAP), and internal procedures to improve efficiency, transparency, and control;
- Act as a key liaison with IT, system vendors, and users on finance system implementation, enhancement, and issue resolution;
- Promote standardization and best practices in finance systems usage across the organization;
- Take a leadership role within the Finance Office by mentoring, guiding, and supporting senior and junior finance staff;
- Support performance management, knowledge transfer, succession planning, and continuous professional development within the team;
- Communicate and collaborate with academic and administrative departments on finance-related matters, providing professional advice and operational support; and
- Administrative and any ad hoc duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance or other related discipline;
- A full member of an internationally recognized accounting professional body;
- At least 10 -12 years of solid accounting and financial management experience, with at least 6 years of managerial experience;
- Solid experience in financial reporting, budget and forecast reporting, audit coordination, internal controls, and finance operations;
- Experience working in sizable and complex organizations; experience in the education sector would be an advantage;
- Strong leadership mindset with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels;
- High level of professional integrity, sound judgement, and discretion;
- Proactive, mature, and resilient, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure;
- Collaborative and confident when engaging senior management and cross-functional stakeholders;
- Strong computer literacy (Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and experienced user of SAP / ERP systems; and
- Good command of written and spoken English, Cantonese, and Putonghua;
