Director of Athletics

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day operation, development, growth and execution of all The ISF Academy Sport teams, events, competitions and all co-curricular sport based activities;
  • Expect to work 5-6 days a week, with hours depending on the time of year and the kind of sports delivered at the time of year;
  • Expect to work early mornings and evenings to accommodate training and practice for students;
  • Assist in the development of the school’s long term strategy and vision of sport teams;
  • Implement and monitor plans and projects to successfully achieve the objectives of sport teams at ISF;
  • Manage and supervise the daily operation of The ISF Academy sport teams;
  • Manage and mitigate risk and ensure the safety of all members of the community;
  • Manage the budget for ISF sport teams including financial performance (surplus, income, expenditure, enrolment), controlling financial expenditure, including facility and vendor invoices;
  • Support, professionally develop, monitor and manage the performance of staff, including specialist sport coaches and vendors to ensure course content, methodology and practices are in line with the philosophy of ISF;
  • Act as a liaison between administration, admissions, marketing and parents to ensure all stakeholders develop an accurate understanding of the schools sports provision and cocurricular sports offerings;
  • Develop and ensure the ongoing review and improvement of existing sport CCA programs and the development and implementation of new sport courses and curricula;
  • Continue to develop links and build ISF’s reputation within Hong Kong sporting associations and develop competitive opportunities overseas;
  • Manage and build relationships with ISF stakeholders; and
  • Assist in the recruitment, assessment and selection of the CCA department staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in in Physical Education or equivalent;
  • Recent and relevant experience at middle and/or senior management level;
  • Recent experience of managing large teams of different cultural backgrounds;
  • Knowledge, understanding and ability to teach the IB MYP and DP would be desirable;
  • Passion for sports and an enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring;
  • Must possess strong people and communication skills, from students and faculty, to parents, community members, media, and staff, the Director of Athletics must interact with an array of groups on and off campus;
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication;
  • Be able to manage relationships with coaches, school leadership teams, parents, students and faculty;
  • Be skilled at providing motivation and direction to the coaches;
  • Be a resourceful leader that delegates tasks effectively;
  • Engage in professional learning and ongoing professional development of themselves and must be able to professional develop members of their team;
  • Possess strong analytical, administrative, and multi-tasking skills;
  • Have experience of appraising staff;
  • Have a proven track record of creating and overseeing an athletic department’s action plan and the school’s five year strategic plan;
  • Have excellent command of written and spoken English and the ability to understand and speak Putonghua would be desirable, but not a prerequisite; and
  • Have excellent command of new technologies.
