The Global Chinese Debate Championship (Asian Cup) – 4th Place

August 8 to 12
Participants: Eric Dong, Xin Ze Li, Ella Du, Yoyo Cheng

The Asian Cup, the largest Chinese debate competition for secondary students worldwide, is renowned for its rigorous schedule, fast-paced format, and high level of performance. This year’s event was held in person at Han Academy in Hong Kong, attracting participants from mainland China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, and more.

Our team faced formidable opponents during the group stage, including Malaysia’s Penang Han Chiang High School, Australia’s Ravenswood School for Girls, and the traditional powerhouse Tsinghua University High School. Ultimately, the ISF team advanced to the knockout stage with a record of one win and one loss, finishing second in the group.

In the knockout, our team confronted a strong coalition of students from Hengshui High School, Tsinghua University High School and another Hong Kong school. Our team secured a spot in the top eight with a narrow victory of 4.5 to 4, earning the honor of fourth place.

Throughout the competition, our students exemplified remarkable unity and determination built from active preparation during the summer break, tackling a demanding schedule of one or even two debates a day without hesitation. In the end, they achieved the best-ever result for ISF Chinese Debate Team in this tournament. Additionally, Xin Ze and Eric were recognized as MVPs for individual rounds, with the latter receiving this honor in all four of his matches.
