Secondary School Curriculum

Philosophy

The Academy believes that learning is the acquisition of knowledge best gained through meaningful activities. Learning is evident when students enthusiastically discuss and debate issues, express themselves freely and demonstrate intellectual curiosity.

To bring about this kind of learning, teaching methods need to cultivate the joy of learning as well as develop in students the social, creative, communication and critical thinking skills necessary to achieve success in an ever-competitive and changing world. This means asking questions, taking risks and not being afraid of making mistakes. Our students learn to learn.

Bilingual Immersion

The Academy’s bilingual program actively supports bilingualism and biculturalism in its students. Immersion instruction in two languages and the promotion of positive cross-cultural attitudes results in high levels of academic achievement.

In the Secondary grades, a greater percentage of instructional time is spent in English to complement the solid foundation in Chinese (Putonghua) that has been developed in the Primary School.
